JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team earned a tough 2-1 mid-week victory over the Tougaloo College Bulldogs Wednesday night at Braddy Field. With the bases loaded, in the 10th inning, Jose Cruz was hit by the pitcher to send Bryce Taylor home for the game winning run.
With the win JSU improves to a 17-6 overall record.
The game, played between JSU and Tougaloo, was a replacement game for the Tigers after the game scheduled for earlier this week against South Alabama was cancelled.
Sergio Parra (2-2) pitched three innings in relief to pick up the win. He allowed one hit and struck six batters en route to the victory. For the game JSU pitchers allowed 7 hits and struck out eight batters. Tilur Smith led the Tigers offense, going 2-4 at the plate.
JSU returns to action Saturday and Sunday when the Tigers host Alabama State in a SWAC three game series. The winner of the series will sit atop the SWAC Eastern Division.
