JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team took the first two games of a three game weekend SWAC series from the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Saturday evening at Braddy Field.
The Tigers scored a combined 29 runs against the Delta Devils. JSU won game one 12-4 and game two 17-3. With the wins JSU improves to a record of 15-6 overall, 4-1 SWAC.
Alexander Juday (2-1) picked up the win in relief work. He struck out four batters and gave up two runs on six hits.
Tilur Smith led the JSU offense with four hits, three runs and five RBI. He hit a home run in the seventh inning. Bryce Taylor had two hits, three runs and a RBI.
JSU led for the entire game, putting up the first two runs of the game in the second inning. The Tigers scored four runs in the fourth and two in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
The Tigers recorded 13 hits and 16 RBI as a team. Taylor finished with three hits, three runs and three RBI. Smith had two hits, two runs and three RBI.
Brandon Gregory (1-0) pitched a complete game to pick up the win. He allowed three runs on three hits while striking out four batters.
Neither team scored in the first inning, but the Tigers scored three runs in the second and another three in the third inning. JSU put the game away in the fourth inning with a six run output. The Tigers scored another three runs in the fifth and two insurance runs on the sixth inning.
The two teams will return to action Sunday, Mar. 16 at 1 p.m. at Braddy Field.
