THIBODAUX, La. — The Jackson State baseball team bounced back to take the second game of a four-game series against the Nicholls State Colonels Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Ray E. Didier Field. The Tigers fell 3-2 Thursday night.
The Tigers rallied from an 8-0 deficit to get the win. Nicholls led 8-0 after six innings of play. JSU began to chip away at the Colonels’ lead by scoring two runs in the seventh inning. Alvin Franklin and Desmond Russell each scored on a Jose Cruz double to right center field.
JSU scored five runs in the eighth, cutting Nicholls’ lead to 8-7. Fred Hampton, Sam Campbell, Bryce Taylor, Franklin andWyatt Sutton all scored. The Tigers won the game in the ninth when Stephen Curtis and Franklin each scored.
Sebron Mackey (1-0) pitched 2.2 innings to get the win. He allowed only two hits and had a strikeout. Sergio Parra closed out the game from the mound to pick up the win.
Marc Picciola (0-1) suffered the loss for Nicholls State.
Sutton and Cruz each finished with two hits to lead JSU. The Tigers finished the game with 10 hits and seven RBIs. Nicholls had 11 hits and seven RBIs.
The series now shifts to Braddy Field on the Jackson State campus on Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 3. Saturday’s game is set for a 6 p.m. start time and Sunday’s game has a 1 p.m. start time.
