JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State baseball team survived a SWAC double-header by beating the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 9-8 in the opener and 5-4 in 10 innings in the nightcap.
With the wins JSU improves to 17-15, 11-3 and AAMU falls to 3-26, 1-10.
JSU won the first game of the series in the ninth inning when Charles Tillery and Bryce Taylor scored on a wild pitch. Aneko Knowles and Jose Cruz each led JSU with two hits. Knowles finished with two runs and two RBI. Ethan Bright (1-0) pitched one inning in relief to pick up the win.
Micah Johnson (0-4) suffered the loss for AAMU. Julio Nunez led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 3-5.
The Tigers won the second game in the 10th inning when Cruz forced a walk, with the bases loaded that scored Bryce Taylor. Andre Rodriguez (2-0) picked up the win for JSU. Taylor went 3-6 at the plate for the Tigers with a run and a RBI.
Josh Freeman (1-7) got the loss for AAMU. Nunez went 2-4 at the plate with a run for the Bulldogs.
JSU and AAMU will return to action for the final game of the weekend series Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m.
