JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State baseball team earned a hard fought 12-11 victory over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Sunday evening at Braddy Field. The Tigers and the Delta Devils played like in-state, conference rivals as the game went 13 innings before the Tigers pulled out the win.
JSU scored the game-winning run in the 13th inning when Charles Tillery scored on a Bryce Taylor single to left field. Tillery singled to get on base and advanced to second on an Ethan Bright single. Tillery advanced to third on the Taylor hit and slid past the MVSU catchers tag at home plate.
Bright and Taylor each recorded four hits and three RBI for the Tigers. Seth Milliorn led Valley with three hits, two runs and two RBI. Andrew Rodriguez (1-0) picked up the win for JSU. In two innings of work he allowed only two hits while recording four strikeouts. Grant Reifers suffered the loss.
The Delta Devils held a 4-2 advantage after three innings of play and increased its lead to 6-2 through five innings. JSU worked its way back into the game by the seventh inning. The Tigers put six runs on the scoreboard in the seventh to take a 9-7 lead. The Delta Devils tied the game in the ninth with a two run inning. Both teams put up two runs in the 10th inning.
Valley finished the game with 16 hits and five errors, while JSU had 17 hits and one error.
With the win JSU improves to a 9-6, 6-0 record. Mississippi Valley falls to 2-15, 0-3. JSU took the first two games of the series Saturday, winning 10-0 in the first game and 12-2 in the second.
JSU returns to action Tuesday, March 12 when the Tigers travel to Columbia, Missouri to take on the Missouri Tigers in non-conference action.
