HOUSTON, Tex. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference released its 2013 All-SWAC teams earlier this morning and eight Jackson State Tigers were recognized. Freshman Javancy Jones was the headliner for JSU as he was named the league’s Freshman of the Year.

In his first season on the field for JSU, Jones recorded 48 tackles (21 solo) to go along with a team high, 12 tackles for loss. He captured five sacks, two pass deflections; a forced fumble, blocked kick and a defensive touchdown (punt block recovery). Early in the year, he was nominated for the Jerry Rice Award. (FCS Freshman of the Year).

Two JSU offensive linemen Jordan Arthur and Jonathan Smith received offensive first team nods. Jones and Qua Cox were named first team defense members. Derrick Jean, Zach Pendleton, Tedderick Terrell and Cameron Loeffler all received second team nods.

JSU will face Southern for the SWAC title on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Tex. Kick-off is set for 1 pm and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
