Nine Tigers named Preseason All-SWAC Team Members/Tigers Picked 3rd in SWAC Preseason Poll
The Southwestern Athletic Conference released its 2014 Preseason Teams and nine Jackson State football players were selected. Jonathan Smith and Javancy Jones were the only two Tigers named to the first team. Rakeem Sims, Tobias Singleton, Tedderick Terrell, Ariane McCree, Antonio Sutton, Ryan Deising and Darcy Williamson were placed on the second team. JSU was also picked to finish third in the SWAC Eastern Division, behind Alabama State and Alcorn State.
JSU President Addresses NCAA Leadership Institute
Jackson State President, Dr. Carolyn Meyers spoke to the NCAA Leadership Institute's alumni class on Tuesday, July 15 in Atlanta, Ga. Meyers, who was recently named the HBCU Digest's Female President of the Year, spoke to the group about effective leadership.
Wayne Brent offers instruction at Mississippi Coaches Association Clinic
Jackson State's head men's basketball coach Wayne Brent was one of the guest coaches who demonstrated coaching and training techniques during the first day of the Mississippi High Coaches Association clinics. The basketball sessions took place at the Tougaloo College gymnasium.

2014 Football Season Kick-off with the Tigers at WalMart
Come join the Tigers Saturday, July 26th from 11a-3p for the 2014 Tiger Kick-Off at Wal-Mart Hwy 18.
TIGER Football Coaches and players will be present signing autographs and taking pictures. Also, purchase your new JSU merchandise (t-shirts, caps, tailgate gear, etc.).
Be there early to greet the Coaches and players as they arrive.

The time for the Jackson State at Texas Southern football game, set for Saturday Nov. 15, 2014, has been changed to 5:30 p.m. The game will be played at BBVA/Compass Stadium. The original time was set for 6:00 p.m.
JSU opens the 2014 season on Saturday, Aug. 30 when the Tigers host the Florida A&M Rattlers at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State University Blue Bengal Athletic Association (BBAA) presented a $100,000 check to the Division of Athletics during its annual Awards Program, held Sunday July 13 at the JSU Sports Hall of Fame room located in the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center on the JSU campus.
Nedra Brown, JSU’s Associate AD/Senior Woman Administrator accepted the gift on behalf of the university.
"We appreciate all contributions made to the Division of Athletics by the Blue Bengals no matter how large or small," Brown said.
The organization also presented awards to the JSU football, soccer, baseball and softball programs for the outstanding season each program had during the 2013-14 academic year. The football team won a second straight SWAC Eastern Division title. The softball team also won a SWAC Eastern Division championship, while the soccer team won the 2013 league championship. The baseball team won its second straight championship and earned back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament.
The BBAA will also sponsor the 2014 SWAC Kick-Off Party (Friday, August 22 at the Mississippi Museum of Art located at 380 South Lamar Street, Jackson, Miss. 39201, 8 p.m. – midnight, admission is $10). The event is open to the public and food will be provided. The BBAA is a non-profit organization existing to enhance, enrich and insure the continuous growth of Jackson State University athletic programs, both men’s and women’s in accordance and compliance with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations. The BBAA operates solely on revenues generated through membership subscriptions and fund-raising activities. All contributions to the BBAA are tax deductible.
