JACKSON, Miss. - Jackson State Baseball signee Deion Ulmer was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 26th round of the MLB Draft on Saturday with the 789th overall pick.

The Laurel, MS native helped lead the Holmes CC Bulldogs to the MACJC State Playoffs this season and also helped lead the East Central Community College Warriors to a state championship last year. He batted .423 in 149 plate appearances.

The 5-9, 170-pound speedster, who plays second base and pitches, had 63 hits including 14 doubles and one homerun with 46 runs scored and 30 RBI. Ulmer also appeared in 18 games on the mound for the Bulldogs and finished with a 7-1 record and a 2.27 ERA. He went 39 2/3 innings and gave up 14 runs on 31 hits. He struck out 24 and walked 17.

He also received All-State and All-Region XXIII first team honors. Should he stay in school Ulmer would play for the back-to-back SWAC Champions during the 2015 season.
