Lady Tigers Defeat Grambling, 10-5 in First Round

DECATUR, Ala. - The Jackson State University softball team defeated Grambling State University, 10-5 during the first round of the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday evening at Wilson Morgan Park.

With the victory, the Lady Tigers improved to 27-27 overall on the season.

JSU came out swinging, after being down 1-0 in the top of the first and answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning.

Jackson State recorded another run in the bottom of the second, making it a 3-1 ballgame.

GSU collected two runs in the top of the third, but could not contain the Lady Tigers bats, as they rallied to score five runs in the bottom half of the third inning, taking an, 8-3 lead over Grambling.

Both teams would record two more runs, but JSU would take the 10-5 victory over GSU.

The Lady Tigers advanced and will face in-state rivals and conference foe, Mississippi Valley State University today at 2:30 p.m. at Wilson Morgan Park.
