Menís Track and Field Tie for 8th Place at SWAC Outdoor Championship

JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State men’s outdoor track and field team tied with Alabama A&M for eighth place at the SWAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in New Orleans, La on with Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 27.

The Tigers were able to outscore Alcorn State but fell to track and field champions Grambling, Southern, Prairie View, Mississippi Valley, Alabama State, Texas Southern, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The Tigers pulled off several top ten finishes. Jeremy Wilson placed third in the 400m dash. Jacques Williams placed fifth in the 1500m and ninth in the 5000m. Rahim Aponte placed sixth in the 800m. D’ante Almo placed sixth in both the 5000m and the 10000m. Jason Hursey placed seventh in the long jump. Justin Lampley placed eighth in the triple jump. Dequan Powell placed ninth in the high jump. The 4x100m relay team (Carson Smith, Jamie McIntosh, Keiven Russey, and Jeremy Wilson) placed fifth and the 4x400m relay team (Jeremy Wilson, Jamie McIntosh, Dana Roberts, Rahim Aponte) placed fourth.
