Softball takes final series from Mississippi Valley State

ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Jackson State softball team claimed its final series of the season, beating in-state rival Mississippi Valley State 2-1. However, during the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader the Devilettes beat the Lady Tigers to ruin JSU’s chances of going undefeated in SWAC play.

Game 1: JSU won the first game of the three-game series 6-3 at the MVSU Softball Complex. The Lady Tigers scored four runs in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Lauren Aikens led JSU at the plate with a pair of hits.

Game 2: The Lady Tigers fell 6-4 to Valley on ESPNU. JSU led 2-0 over the first two innings, but MVSU rallied to score three runs in the third inning. MVSU scored another three runs, scoring one in the fourth and two more in the sixth inning. JSU scored two runs in the seventh.

Game 3: JSU bounced back to pick up the series clinching 4-2 victory. The Lady Tigers overcame four errors to pick up their last win of the regular season.
