JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State University softball team is set to travel to Montgomery, Ala. to face Alabama State University in a Southwestern Athletic Conference weekend series at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
Game one of the series begins Friday at 6 p.m., while games two and three will be played on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
The Lady Tigers (13-23 overall, 5-0 SWAC) are coming off a huge 3-1 non-conference victory over the University of Arkansas on Tuesday evening. JSU also went undefeated during the SWAC Roundup on this past weekend in Longview, Texas against the SWAC Western division teams.
Senior shortstop Lauren Aikens leads Jackson State at the plate with a .366 batting average; including 37 hits, 27 RBI, 15 runs scored, eleven doubles, and a homerun.
Sophomore infielder Chelsea Smith has been on a streak in the past nine contests. While the Lady Tigers have recorded an 8-1 record in those games, Smith has tallied a .444 batting average; including 15 RBI, 12 hits, 10 runs scored, three homeruns, a double, and a triple. She holds a .889 slugging percentage and a .500 on base percentage.
Senior Breea Jamerson leads the Lady Tigers on the mound with a 4.20 ERA. She holds a 5-8 record with three saves on the season.
