JACKSON, Miss. — The Jackson State University football team completed the first full week of spring practice under new head coach Harold Jackson, Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the JSU cootball practice facility.

"It was a good week of practice," said Jackson. "We (the coaching staff) were able to learn a lot. The players are buying into and grasping the system quite well. It's a tough and strategic system, but I think the guys are doing exceptionally well. We are right where we need them to be after the first week of practice."

The team spent the week working on highly anticipated schemes after naming new offensive and defensive coordinators this winter.

"We just wanted to get back to the basics and work mainly on fundamentals this week," Jackson stated. "We want the players to understand that the guys out here are family, so we don't want anyone to get hurt. This is just practice. We want the guys to learn everything out here now, so when August arrives, they will be equipped and ready to put all they've learned into action and win games."

"My coaching staff and I have anticipated this time since coming here, so just being out on the field has been very fun."

The Tigers resume practice Tuesday, March 25, 214, at 6 a.m.
