JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State men and women’s track and field teams competed in the 63rd annual Texas Southern Relays in Houston, Tex. on Friday, March 21-Saturday, March 22.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers competed against several schools, five of which are also in the SWAC (Alabama State, Grambling, Prairie View, Texas Southern, and Southern).
The Lady Tigers top performers in this meet were Quatasia Fantroy, the Lady Tigers’ 1600 Sprint Medley team, and Queen Briggs. Quatasia Fantroy placed seventh of of 30 in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.32m and placed ninth in the Triple Jump with a length of 11.51m. The Lady Tigers’ 1600m Sprint Medley team consisted of Aniecia Brewster, Shannon Parker, A’Kendra Lewis, and Krissle Nicome. They placed seventh with a time of 4:13.77. Queen Briggs placed six the Shot Put with a distance of 13.46m.
The JSU Tigers had a great meet. Some of the highlights were the Tigers' 4x400 relay team of Jejremy Wilson, Jamie McIntosh, Dana Roberts, and Tamarick Johnson finished 3rd with a time of 3:14.65, Dana Roberts finished sixth in the 400M , Tamarick Johnson finished sixth in the 200M, and D'Ante Almo finshised fifth in the 5000m run.
The Tigers’ and Lady Tigers’ hope to make improvements when they return to action on Saturday, March 29 at the Memphis Invitational hosted by the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tenn.
