BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southwestern Athletic Conference hosts its 2014 SWAC Bowling Championship from Friday March 21 to Sunday March 23 at the Bowling International Training and Research Center (ITRC) in Arlington, Texas.

With the completion of regular season round ups, six teams made up the tournament field to include: regular season champions Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Jackson State, Southern, Texas Southern and defending SWAC champion Prairie View A&M.

On Friday, the teams took the lanes at 12 p.m. CT for five matches of pinfall competition. The preliminary round included team pinfall to determine seeding for Saturday tournament play with double-elimination to start at 9:00 a.m. CT. The winners at the end of Saturday's competition will advance to the finals on Sunday with start time slated for 1 p.m. CT.

With the double-elimination segment of the 2014 SWAC Bowling Tournament in place,  Alabama A&M and Alabama State captured the two top seeds as the high scorers of the day with 4,662 and 4,605 pins respectively. These two teams will have a first round bye in Saturday's double-elimination bracket.

Jackson State came in third with 4,576 pins, while Texas Southern placed fourth with 4,490. Coming in as the No. 5 seed was Prairie View A&M  Southern would go on to finish 6th.

Saturday, a pair of teams will compete for the championship final on a tape delayed ESPNU broadcast that will air Tuesday, April 1 at 8:30 p.m. CT.

2014 SWAC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Kaila Ryan of Alabama State had the highest total pin fall of the day at 1015. Teammate Brianna Wells finished second with a total of 980.

Jackson State’s Dyanna Scott had the third highest pin fall total posting a 974. Lynsie Rodriguez finished fourth with a 961 and Ariel Dowdy rounded out the top five finishers with a 957.

The championship final will be broadcast on ESPNU tape delayed on Tuesday, April 1 at 8:30 p.m. CT.
