The Jackson State University softball team is set to host its JSU Softball Tournament this weekend at the JSU Softball Complex beginning Friday at 11 a.m.
JSU opens the tournament Friday at 4 p.m. with Eastern Illinois University. Saturday the Lady Tigers face Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville at 2:45 p.m. and Kansas University at 5:15 p.m. The team finishes the weekend with Eastern Illinois at noon, Sunday.
Jackson State enters this weekend with a 4-6 overall record and is coming off a 4-3/1-0 split with instate and cross-town rival Belhaven University on Tuesday evening at the JSU Softball Complex.
Breea Jamerson and Lauren Aikens were named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Week and Hitter of the Week for their performance this past week and weekend on the playing field.
Jamerson, the Los Angeles, Calif., native is 2-3 on the season thus far and holds an earned run average of 2.15, which is second in the conference and first on the team. She leads the league in batters struck out (21), batters struck out looking (10), innings pitched (39.0), saves (2), appearances (9), and games started (6). She's also ranked second in the conference in wins (2) and is ranked fourth in the conference in opposing batting average (.235).
Aikens, the Columbia, Miss., native is ranked second in the conference and leads the team in hits (11) and is ranked first in the conference in doubles (3) and hit by pitch (2). She also leads the team with a .393 batting average and seven RBI.
