Jamerson and Aikens receive SWAC honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference tabbed another duo as its SWAC Softball Players of the Week. Breea Jamerson and Lauren Aikens from Jackson State receive this week’s accolades for a great performance on the field. 

JSU earned two huge wins in the Arkansas Invitational defeating Butler University and University of Kansas-Missouri. Jamerson was named Pitcher of the Week and Aikens received Hitter of the Week.

Over the weekend Jackson State had a chance to make an appearance in the Arkansas Invitational by host University of Arkansas, Razorbacks. The Lady Tigers had two huge wins over Butler University (1-0) and University of Missouri-Kansas (9-5). Jamerson leads the conference and JSU with 18 batters struck out, eight batters struck out looking, and two wins. She currently holds a 2.51 earned run average. Her best game came against Butler, she pitched for nine innings, earning seven hits and seven strikeouts. 

Hitter of the Week
Lauren Aikens
Jackson State University
IF • Sr. • 5-4 • Columbia, Miss. 
Aikens spearheaded JSU at the plate with a batting average of .400 for the week. She leads the team and the league with three doubles and is tied at No. 1 with two hit by pitch. Aikens ranks fourth with six RBI for the conference. She had a double, four runs and 10 at bats. In the game against University of Missouri-Kansas she went one-for-one at the plate while recording two runs and one RBI.
