The Jackson State men’s basketball team returns to action Saturday, Jan. 25 when the Tigers host Grambling State at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. Tip-off for the men’s game is at 7:30 pm.

JSU comes into Saturday’s game following a big win over Texas Southern on Monday. GSU is currently on a 10 game losing streak, including all six of its conference games. 

 

Tiger Tracks

-The Jackson State men’s basketball team Returns to the Lee E. Williams AAC to face Grambling State on Saturday. JSU comes into the game following a big four-point win over Texas Southern. JSU snapped a three-game losing streak with the win.

-Julysses Nobles leads the team in scoring (15 ppg), BJ West leads the team in rebounding and blocked shots (11 rpg and 2. bpg). West is the only player in the SWAC to average a double-double this season.

-JSU averages 64.1 ppg and allows 70.3. The Tigers also average 35.7 rpg and allows 34.7.

 

Grambling - Jackson State Series

- JSU leads the series 81-49. In the last meeting between the two teams on Feb. 16 at the Lee E. Williams AAC JSU dominated the G-Men 77-38. Jeff Stubbs led JSU in scoring with 22 points.

 

Scouting GSU

-Grambling State enters the game as the only team in the conference that has not registered a win in SWAC play. GSU’s overall record is 1-14

-Despite the record, GSU has been competitive in many of the games. In the last two outings, GSU fell 74-72 to Texas Southern and 83-82 to Prairie View A&M. The last two games were played at Grambling. In GSU’s last two road games, the G-Men fell 73-49 to Southern and 64-56 to Alcorn State.

-GSU has two players who average double figure scoring in A’Torri Shine (16.5) and Antwan Scott (14.9) Chandler Thomas leads the team in rebounding (5.1).

-JSU is 7th in the SWAC in scoring offense (64.1 ppg) and GSU is 8th (64 ppg).

-JSU is sixth in the SWAC in scoring margin (-6.2) and GSU is 10th (-19.2).

West Names SWAC Player of the Week

JSU comes into Saturday’s game following a big win over Texas Southern on Monday. GSU is currently on a 10 game losing streak, including all six of its conference games.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference has selected Jackson State University Center Brandon West as its SWAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 21.

This marks the second time this season West has been tabbed with the weekly honor. 

Saturday against Prairie View, the 6-10 center scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.  He connected on four of his seven field goal attempts while going a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. 

The Cheneyville, La. native came back with another impressive outing while hosting Texas Southern Monday night.  West notched his 10th double-double of the season scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting.

West is the only player in the conference averaging a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds per game.  

 

Game Time Change - Grambling vs. JSU (Jan. 25)

Game times for the Grambling at Jackson State men’s and women’s double-header set for Saturday, Jan. 25 has been changed to 5;30 PM (women) and 7:30 pm (men).
