OXFORD, Miss. - The Lady Tigers opened the season with No. 35 the University of Mississippi indoors at Ole Miss Wednesday afternoon.  Freshman Akshatha Ananth, Chennai, India, made her debut with Senior Harshini Reddy, Bangalore, India, at No. 3 doubles. Sophomores Julia Angermann, Kulmbach, Germany and Anastasia Zviahintseva, Mykolaiv, Ukraine made their JSU debut at No. 2 and Seniors Angela Condorelli, Santiago, Chile and Kesica Jayapalan, Coimbatore, India started the Tiger season at No. 1.  The Lady Rebels served extremely well and the Lady Tiges lost the doubles point.  The Lady Rebels are likely to move into the Top 20 and our Tigers competed well.

Anastasia Zviahintseva had the match of the day with 2013 NCAA tournament participant and current No. 86 Caroline Rohde Moe.  Moe won 6-2,6-2, but the score was not indicative of the match quality.  Harshini Reddy played Zalina Khairudinova, Kazikstan, who has been playing professional tour events and was too much for Reddy.  Julia Angermann, Akshatha Ananth, Kesica Jayapalan and Angie Condorelli all played well, competed hard, but fell victim to the stronger play of the Rebels.

Coach Pennington said, "We played a Top 20 team very well today.  We had numerous chances to close out some games, but for our the first match of the season it was good.  Ole Miss had already played some matches so that helped them for sure.  We learned a lot from today and will work on those areas to be better in the future.  We've improved leaps and bounds from last year."

The Lady Tigers will travel to Mobile, AL to play the University of South Alabama on Saturdayand then to Hattiesburg, MS to play the University of Southern Mississippi on Sunday.
