Jackson- The Jackson State University Lady Tigers’ track and field team opened up thier track and field indoor 2013-2014 season when they traveled to Jonesboro, Ark. to compete in the Arkansas State Kick-off Klassic on Sunday, Dec. 1.
The Lady Tigers faced seven schools in eleven events and made a mark by achieving several second and third place positions.
In the women’s shot put even, Queen Briggs placed second (13.56m). In the women’s weight throw, Hannah Porter placed second (13.57m) and Briggs followed with a close third with (13.55m).
In the women’s one mile run, the Lady Tigers were able to grab two spots among the top five. Krissle Nicome placed third (5:28.31) and D’Andrea Eashmond placed fifth (5:34.70).
Nicome and Eashmond also claimed high spots in the women’s 800 meter run. Nicome placed fourth with a time of 2:27.50 and D’Andrea Eashmond sixth with a time of 2:28.46.
Akila Craig placed fifth in the women’s 55 meter dash in a time of 7.24 followed by teammate Munirat Balogun who placed sixth with a time of 7.29. Aniecia Brewster placed fifth in the women’s 400 dash with a time of 59.92 and the Lady Tigers women’s 4x400 meter relay team (Munirat Balogun, Aniecia Brewster, A’Kendra Lewis, and Tyler Watson) placed fourth.
The Lady Tigers will travel to Birmingham, Ala. on Friday, Dec. 6 to compete in the BSC Panther Invite hosted by Birmingham Southern University.
