Lady Tigers Overwhelmed By MVSU on Senior Day

The Jackson State University volleyball team was overwhelmed 2-3 (21-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-10, 13-15) by Mississippi Valley State University Friday evening on Senior Day.

The Lady Tigers (7-18 overall, 3-3 SWAC) struggled out the gate, dropping the first two sets, going into halftime down. JSU came out of the half taking the sets three and four, before being overpowered 15-13 in the final set.

Senior middle blocker Paige Williams led the way for JSU, recording 17 kills, seven digs, four block assists, and two solo blocks. Senior setter Angelica Kelley added 22 assists; while freshman defensive specialist Karmen Jackson and senior defensive specialist Briana Hopkins led Jackson State defensively with 13 digs each.

Halle Gayten and Taylor Delaire led the offensive charge for MVSU, while Athena Abary added 17 assists. Steffi Rodriguez led the Devilettes defensively with 25 digs.
