Lady Tigers Defeat Alabama A&M 3-2 on Wednesday

After being overpowered 2-3 in their first meeting, the Jackson State University volleyball team defeated Alabama A&M 3-2 Wednesday evening at the Lee E. Williams Athletic & Assembly Center.

The Lady Tigers (7-16 overall, 3-2 SWAC) struggled out the gate during the first set, falling 21-25 before winning the second set by a score of 25-18.

Jackson State came out after halftime, gifting the third set to the Lady Bulldogs, 21-25. Being spearheaded by middle blockers senior Paige Williams, sophomores Mikayla Rolle and Alexsis Ford, the Lady Tigers persevered throughout the fourth and fifth sets to overwhelm Alabama A&M by scores of 29-27 and 15-6 and come away with the victory.

Williams finished with 16 kills, four digs, three block assists, an assist, a serves ace, and a solo block to lead JSU on the attack. Rolle added 15 kills; while Ford recorded 14 in the victory. 

Sophomore setter Jenna Siddiqui tallied 38 assists; while defensively, senior defensive specialist Briana Hopkins led the Lady Tigers with 17 digs. Senior setter Angelica Kelley registered 15 assists to help capture the victory also.

Jackson State will host the Alabama State University Lady Hornets in the Lee E. Williams AAC Saturday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m.
