Lady Tigers Geared to Host Alabama A&M

The Jackson State University volleyball team is geared up to host Alabama A&M University (5-17 overall/ 3-1 SWAC) at the Lee E. Williams Athletic & Assembly Center on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

First set is slated for 7 p.m. and can be seen on Southwestern Athletic Conference Television via:  In conjunction with Susan B. Komen, this will be our “Think Pink” game and we are asking all to participate by wearing PINK to the game. Also, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be hosting a carnival/festival around the volleyball contest beginning at 5 p.m. There will be candy, bounce houses, dunking booth, and prizes to be given away also at this event.

The Lady Tigers (6-16/ 3-2) last met the Lady Bulldogs earlier in month, dropping a 2-3 (15-25, 18-25, 25-15, 26-24, 9-15) decision in Huntsville, Ala. JSU struggled throughout the first two sets of the match before roaring back in the third and fourth sets, and being overwhelmed in the fifth and final set.

Jackson State looks to regroup and have a much better outing Wednesday. Sophomore middle blocker Mikayla Rolle leads the Lady Tigers in kills (163) and blocks (13 solo/ 57 assists). Sophomore setter Jenna Siddiqui leads the team in assists with 483; while senior setter Angelica Kelley leads the ladies with 19 serves aces.

Defensively, Jackson State is led by the play of freshman defensive specialist Karmen Jackson. The McKinney, Texas native has tallied 178 digs on the season, including 2.66 digs/set.

Alabama A&M has been led by junior middle blocker Leslie Ekpe offensively. Ekpe has tallied 145 kills on the season. Senior setter Ashley Forman has added 538 assists; while freshman middle blocker Ashundria McNeal leads the Lady Bulldogs defensively with six solo blocks and 42 block assists.
