JACKSON – Jackson State running back Tommy Gooden has been honored by College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) as its National Running Back of the Week. Gooden had a career night on Saturday when he rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns in JSU’s 42-33 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He scored the final two touchdowns of the game (a six yard run at the 2:37 mark in the third quarter and a 30 yard run with a minute left in the game). He averaged 10.7 yards per carry.
Gooden is currently the third leading rusher in the SWAC. Through six games he has 532 yards and five touchdowns. He averages 88.7 yards per game.
He was also named the College Sports Madness SWAC Offensive Player of the Week. Jackson State (4-2, 4-0 SWAC) returns to action Saturday, Oct. 12 when the Tigers travel to Itta Bena, Miss. to take on Mississippi Valley State (1-4, 1-2 SWAC). Kick-off is set for 2 pm.
