The Jackson State University volleyball team defeated in-state rival and Southwestern Athletic Conference foe Alcorn State University 3-1 (25-9, 23-25, 25-15, 25-10) on Wednesday evening at the T. B. Ellis Gymnasium.
The Lady Tigers (3-14 overall, 1-0 SWAC) came out swinging in the first set, overwhelming the Lady Braves by tallying eleven kills to their six.
In the second set, JSU made a turn for the worse; gifting a 23-25 heart-breaker to ASU. Jackson State turned it around in the third set, overpowering Alcorn by a score of 25-15 and out-attacking the Lady Braves 13-10. JSU sealed the deal in the fourth set, thrashing ASU with 12 total attacks to its four.
Sophomore middle blocker MiKayla Rolle led Jackson State offensively with 13 kills on the night, three solo blocks and a block assist. Sophmore setter Jenna Siddiqui tallied 38 assists; while freshman defensive specialist Karmen Jackson recorded 21 digs for the Lady Tigers.
