BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State University's Patricia Cartwright and Elexis Rice along with Alyssa Cobbs of The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff as its SWAC Soccer Players of the Week for October 1, 2013.

Cartwright was tabbed Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this year while Rice was credited with her first Defensive Player of the Week nomination. Cobbs earned Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season.

During her first start of the season, Cartwright scored her first two goals of the year to help carry Jackson State to a 6-0 shutout over Millsap’s College on Saturday. Cartwright's defensive efforts landed her first on the team in goals with two. She is one of two Lady Tigers to receive honors this week.

Elexis Rice

Rice recorded a pair of goals and two assists during the match against Millsap’s College on Saturday. Going into the second half of the game, she posted the first two goals of the period to give JSU a 2-0 lead over Millsap’s. Rice currently leads the team in points with six, assists with two and game-winning-goals with one.

Alyssa Cobbs

Arkansas-Pine Bluff

JR • GK • 5'9 • Ellenwood, Ga.

Cobbs finished the week with 10 saves to help Arkansas Pine-Bluff collect a 2-0 win over Central Baptist on Tuesday. She played the entire game (90 minutes) recording her second shutout of the season in that many wins. Cobbs currently ranks first in the conference in saves with
