The Jackson State University volleyball team defeated Southern University 3-0 in its Southwestern Athletic Conference home opener on Wednesday evening at the T.B. Ellis Gymnasium.
The Lady Tigers (2-13 overall) came out on the attack, recording 13 kills during the first set. Freshmen outside hitters Tamisha Barry and Kennede Banks led JSU offensively, tallying 10 kills each; while sophomore setter Jenna Siddiqui added 25 assists.
Defensively, the Lady Tigers were led by freshman defensive specialist Karmen Jackson. The McKinney, Texas native registered nine digs. Senior middle blocker Paige Williams recorded eight kills; seven digs, an assist, and a block assist on the night.
Simone Beasley led the way for SU. The senior recorded nine kills; three digs, a block assist and an assist.
Jackson State will play host to Alcorn State University on Wednesday, October 2 in the T.B. Ellis Gymnasium. First set is slated for 7 p.m. JSU will host a canned food drive as well during the match and is asking everyone to wear your Blue and White.
