Jackson Police Encourage JSU Football Fans to Take Precautions to Avoid Traffic Jams Ahead of Home Football Games
(Jackson, MS) -- The Jackson Police Department is encouraging Jackson State
University football fans to take special precautions to avoid the additional traffic
jams anticipated due to construction near the Mississippi Veterans Memorial
JPD Commander Duane Odom said fans should try to avoid the peak times for
football traffic whenever possible because of ongoing construction on West Street.
Fans should plan to arrive at the stadium at least an hour ahead of time to avoid
peak traffic times. It is traditionally heaviest, he said, an hour before kickoff until at
least the first 40 minutes of the game. Saturday's game starts at 5 p.m.
"We are going to do the best we can to keep things going," Odom said.
Jackson State University officials also cautioned fans that they will not be allowed to
park at the Farmer's Market located near the stadium so they should be prepared to
park in the stadium's allotted parking.
To alleviate parking and traffic woes for fans, JSU and JATRAN have partnered
on a Park-and-Ride Service for all JSU home football games. For a $3 pass, fans
can park their vehicles at the nearby Jackson Medical Mall and ride the JATRAN
shuttles directly to the front entrance of the football stadium. Fans also will be
transported back to their vehicles following the game. Odom said JATRAN officials
