JACKSON – The Jackson State baseball team picked up a pair of victories Saturday evening when the Tigers defeated the Florida A&M Rattlers 11-1 and 8-7 at Braddy Field in JSU’s final series of the season.
JSU won the first game in convincing fashion. Alexander Juday (4-4) pitched seven effective innings, giving up only one run on three hits, while recording four strikeouts. Gabriel Babineaux and Ethan Bright each finished with four hits. Babineaux scored four runs and had a RBI.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard early and often. JSU scored a run in the first inning and added another five in the third. JSU added four more runs in the fifth and a run in the seventh.
JSU trailed most of the second game, with the contest going 13 innings before the Tigers put the Rattlers away. FAMU held a 7-2 advantage after three innings. JSU slowly began to climb back into the game. The Tigers cut the lead to 7-3 after scoring a run in the fourth. JSU added another three runs in the seventh and tied the game at 7-7 after scoring a run in the ninth. Neither team could muster much offense until JSU scored the game winning run in the 13th inning.
JSU finished the game with 12 hits and three errors. Ethan Bright pitched an inning to get the win. Fred Hampton led JSU with three hits, two runs and two RBI. Stephen Curtis and Charles Tillery each recorded two hits and two runs.
The two teams return to action Sunday, May 12 at 1 p.m. at Braddy Field.
