Baseball to host Southern Friday

JACKSON – Riding a five game winning streak heading into the final five games of the regular season, Jackson State (26-18, 19-5) will host Southern (19-19, 14-11) at Braddy Field Friday at 6:00 p.m. for a single game.  The Tigers will then head to Baton Rouge, La. to complete the series against the Jaguars.  

The Tigers have a 1-1 record against SWAC Western Division opponents this season. JSU hosted Texas Southern on February 15-16 during the JSU Tournament. JSU won the first game against TSXO 4-0 and lost the second 14-5.

The Tigers are 11-4 in April and comes off a SWAC series win against in-state rival Alcorn State. JSU opened last week with a win over the New Orleans Privateers (9-6) and followed that up with a weekend sweep of the Braves. JSU took game one of the series 5-2 and game two 6-5. The Tigers won the final game of the series 5-2 and claimed the SWAC Eastern Division title.

The Tigers will end the regular season at Braddy Field for a weekend stand against non-conference foe Florida A&M on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12.
