JACKSON – The Jackson State softball team took the first game of a three-game series against Alabama State Friday evening at the JSU SB Complex. The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Hornets 4-2 on senior day. JSU moved its senior day up to Friday because of the impending thunderstorms set to hit Jackson on Saturday.

Alabama State scored its two runs in the third inning. JSU put its first run on the scoreboard when Canessa Swanson scored on a Tayler Nave double to left center field in the fourth inning. The Lady Tigers scored the final three runs of the game in the fifth when Raveen Palmer, Tahlisa Blosser and Amanda Vasquez all scored.

Jasmine Warren (9-5) pitched four innings to pick up the win. She allowed only one hit and struck out a batter. Swanson was 3-3 at the plate for JSU, with a run and two RBI. Felicia Wilson went 2-3 at the plate for the Lady Tigers.

Jackson State and Alabama State will play the final two games of the series Saturday at the JSU SB Complex. The first game is set to start at 11 a.m. and the second game has a 1 p.m. start time. The game times were change due to the coming inclement weather.
