JACKSON – Twelve Jackson State University student-athletes were inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society at the University’s Student Center Senate Chambers Thursday night. In order to be included into Chi Alpha Sigma student athletes must have lettered in their prospective sport and maintained a 3.4 grade point average or greater. 

The following student-athletes were inducted into the 2013 class of Chi Alpha Sigma: Jordan Arthur (Football) – 3.4 GPA, Joshua McCormick (Men’s Golf) – 3.7 GPA, Jose Luque (Men’s Tennis) 4.0 GPA, Samuel Rhoads (Men’s Cross Country/Track) – 4.0 GPA, Geoffrey Brady (Men’s Track) – 3.5 GPA, Dyanna Scott (Bowling) – 3.9 GPA, Rashia Yero (Bowling) – 3.6 GPA, Patricia Cartwright (Soccer) – 3.9 GPA, Ebru Yamala (Soccer) – 3.5 GPA, Harshini Reddy (Women’s Tennis)- 4.0 GPA, Kesica Jayapalan (Women’s Tennis) – 3.7 GPA and Akila Craig (Women’s Track) – 3.9 GPA  

In addition, the following student-athletes were honored for continuing their academic excellence (as members of Chi Alpha Sigma): Kendall Logan (Baseball) – 3.7 GPA, Sergio Para (Baseball) – 3.6 GPA, Josue De Leon (Baseball) – 3.4 GPA, Daria Hester (Women’s Basketball) – 3.4 GPA, Ariel Siegel (Softball) – 3.5 GPA, Sabeana Romero (Softball) – 3.5 GPA, Christine Edwards (Volleyball) – 3.7 GPA and Kameron Boggan (Volleyball) 3.4 GPA

Jackson Sate is only the second member Institution of Higher Learning in the state of Mississippi, and has been designated as the Mississippi Beta Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma in 2008. Jackson State is one of six Historically Black Colleges and Universities with a chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma. 

More About Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society

Established in 1996 at DePauw University, Chi Alpha Sigma is a non-profit organization, established to recognize college student athletes who have earned a varsity letter in at least one sports while maintaining a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA throughout their junior and senior years.  

For the purposes of rewarding high academic scholarship of college athletes at four-year accredited colleges and universities, encourage good citizenship, moral characters and friendship among the high academic achievers in college athletes, and to provide leadership to other athletes - are some of the reasons this organization was chartered.
