JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team improved to an 18-15 overall record and recorded its third series sweep in Southwestern Athletic Conference play by beating Alabama A&M 7-0 Sunday afternoon at Braddy Field.
In Saturday’s action, the Tigers swept the Bulldogs 9-8 and 5-4 in a double header. In the final game of the series, JSU shut out the Bulldogs, the sixth of the season for the Tigers. JSU pitches allowed only four hits, while recording eight hits and seven RBI.
JSU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. The Tigers added another run in the second to take a commanding 4-0 advantage after two innings. Another run was added in the sixth and Ethan Bright put the game completely out of reach with a two run home run in the seventh inning.
Aneko Knowles (2-2) pitched five solid innings to pick up the win. He allowed only one hit, while recording three strikeouts. Gary Thomas, Bryce Taylor and Bright each recorded two hits. Thomas scored and run and had a RBI and Taylor recorded two runs and a RBI. Bright scored a run and had four RBI.
JSU returns to action April 9 when the Tigers travel to Hammond, LA to take on SE Louisiana in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
