LORMAN, Miss. – The Jackson State softball team dominated the Alcorn State Lady Braves in a SWAC double header Saturday afternoon at the ASU Softball Complex.
JSU won the first game20-3 and took the second game 9-0. Both games were won in six innings. With the wins JSU improves to 21-22, 8-1 and Alcorn State falls to 7-27, 0-6.
The Lady Tigers scored its 20 runs on 20 hits and had 20 RBI in the opener. Six Lady Tigers hit for doubles. Jasmine Warren, Canessa Swanson, Tayler Nave and Lauren Aikens each recorded three hits en route to the win. Breea Jamerson (14-16) picked up the win for JSU. In five innings of work she allowed only three runs on five hits.
Alex Harris led Alcorn State at the plate, going 2-3 with a RBI. Deanna Rancillio (2-9) pitched 5.2 innings for the loss.
After the first inning the game was tied 2-2. JSU scored four runs at the top of the third and never looked back. ASU scored its final run at the bottom of the third. JSU added a run in the fifth to take a 7-3 advantage and scored 13 runs in the sixth to completely put the game out of reach.
The Lady Tigers controlled the second game, allowing only one Lady Brave hit. JSU scored its nine runs on 11 hits. Nave led JSU, going 3-4 at the plate with two runs and four RBI. Brea O’Lear recorded ASU’s only hit.
Warren (7-4) pitched 5.1 innings and recorded four strikeouts to pick up the win.
The two teams will return to action Sunday, April 7 at the ASU Softball Complex. Saturday’s double header was originally set for Friday, but the game was pushed back due to inclement weather.
