Softball travels to Lorman in weekend series with Lady Braves

JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State softball team returns to action Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7 to take on the Alcorn State Lady Braves in SWAC action in Lorman, MS. Saturday’s double-header is set for a 12 p.m. start time and Sunday’s single game has a 2 p.m. start time.

The Lady Tigers (19-22, 6-1 SWAC) look to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Mississippi State (in Starkville). With only one conference loss, JSU sits atop the SWAC Eastern Division standings. Jasmine Warren leads the Lady Tigers with a .351 batting average. She has 27 hits, 10 doubles, two home runs and 18 RBI. Sabeana Romero and Lauren Aikens each have a .327 batting average. Romero has five doubles and two home runs, while Aikens has seven doubles, a team high four home runs and 26 RBI.

Breea Jamerson and Warren are the two main hurlers for JSU. Jamerson (13-16) has a 3.45 ERA and has 79 strikeouts in 178.2 innings played. Warren (5-5) has a 5.89 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 73.2 innings.

Alcorn State (7-25) sits at the bottom of the SWAC East standings with a 0-4 conference mark. The Lady Braves currently own the SWAC’s longest winning streak. Alcorn State a double-header win over LSU-Alexandria and two wins over Talladega College.

Alexandria Harris has the best batting average (.365) for the Lady Braves. She has seven doubles, a home run and 12 RBI. Chamara Moore has a .294 batting average with a team-high five home runs and 16 RBI. Deanna Ranciliio and Kassandra Duncan each have a 2-8 record. Ranciliio has pitched 71.1 innings and recorded 28 strikeouts. She has a 6.08 ERA. Duncan has a 6.47 ERA and in 48.2 innings pitched she has recorded 13 strikeouts.

The series was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, but severe storms changed the playing dates.
