HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Jackson State softball team, after splitting with Alabama A&M in a Friday double header, claimed the weekend series with a 9-7 victory Saturday at Lady Bulldog Field.
In Friday’s action, JSU lost the first game 6-5 and bounced back to win the second game 5-4. In today’s game, JSU scored its nine runs and eight RBI on 17 hits. Lauren Aikens went 3-4 at the plate with a run and two RBI. Jasmine Warren, Tayler Nave, Felicia Warren, Arianna Smith and Arial Siegel each recorded two hits en route to the victory.
Jasmine Warren (14-15) pitched five innings to pick up the win. She gave up two runs on four hits and finished with five strikeouts.
Jackson State led Alabama A&M 4-1 after three innings. AAMU took a 5-4 lead with a four run fourth inning. At the top of the fifth JSU reclaimed a 7-5 lead with a three run outburst, but AAMU tied the game with two runs at the bottom of the inning. JSU scored the final runs in the ninth inning.
Jackson State (19-21, 6-1) returns to action Tuesday, April 2 to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville, Miss. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
