HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Jackson State softball team split a Friday twin bill with the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs. JSU lost the first game 6-5 and bounced back to take the second game 5-4. Following the day’s action, JSU finished with a 19-21 overall record and a 5-1 conference record.
Breea Jamerson (13-16) suffered the loss in the opener. In six innings she allowed six runs on nine hits while striking out four batters. Jasmine Warren and Canessa Swanson each went 3-4 at the plate. Warren had two runs and Swanson had a run and two RBI.
The Lady Tigers scored the first run of the game but the Lady Bulldogs tied the game with a run in the fourth inning. Each team scored three runs in the fifth. JSU scored a run in the sixth and AAMU scored the final two runs of the game in the sixth inning.
Lauren Ortiz (1-1) picked up her first win of the season. In one inning of work she allowed a run on two hits. Jazmine Warren finished the game for JSU. She allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out four batters.
The Lady Tigers put four runs on the scoreboard in the first inning. AAMU also scored a run in the first. The Lady Bulldogs cut JSU’s lead to 4-3 by scoring a run in the fourth and fifth innings. The Lady Tigers scored their final run of the game in the sixth inning and limited AAMU to a run in the seventh to hang on to the win.
Warren led JSU with three hits and a run. Lauren Aikens hit a two run homer in the first inning.
JSU and AAMU return to action Saturday at Bulldog Field.
