LONGVIEW, Texas – Jasmine Warren and Lauren Ortiz combined to lead the Jackson State softball team to a 13-0 shutout victory over the Grambling State Lady Tigers Saturday during day two of the Southwestern Athletic Conference roundup at Lear Athletic Stadium.
Warren (3-5) picked up the win for JSU. She pitched four innings and allowed only one hit. Lauren Ortiz came in to close out the game. In an inning of work she allowed one hit and recorded a strike out.
JSU scored its 13 runs on eight hits. Warren helped her own cause, going 2-3 at the plate with three runs and two RBI. Sabeana Romero finished with two hits, two runs and two RBI. Lauren Aikens went 1-2 at the plate with a run and two RBI.
The Lady Tigers opened the game with a four run first inning. The inning was capped with a two-run homer by Aikens. JSU added another three runs in the second. Arial Siegel, Warren and Tayler Nave all scored. JSU scored the final runs of the game in the fourth inning and closed the game in the fifth.
JSU’s second game of the day, against Arkansas Pine Bluff was postponed at the bottom of the third inning with JSU trailing 1-0. The Lady Tigers will return to action Sunday to complete the game against UAPB and then will play Texas Southern at 12:30 p.m. and Prairie View A&M at 3 p.m. to conclude the roundup.
