The Jackson State men's and women's track and field teams returned to action this weekend. The men's team participated in the 62nd Annual Texas Southern Relays in Houston, Texas and the Lady Tigers participated in the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana.
In men's action, the highlight of the TSU Relays was the 4x100 meter relay team's (Bentrell McGee, BJ Lee, Richard Kelly and Anaso Jobodwana) first place finish. The Tigers finished with a time of 40.14 seconds, the fourth fastest time in the event so far this season. Bentrell McGee finished third in the 400 meter hurdles (53.63).
Richard Kelly took fourth place in the 100 meter dash (10.62) and Jamie McIntosh finished sixth in the 200 meter dash (22.30). Dana Roberts finished fifth in the 400 meter dash (48.94) and Ibrahim Hinds finished fourth in the 800 meter run (1.54.68).
Hakeem Belle was a standout in the field events for the Tigers. He finished seventh in the triple jump (13.69 meters) and 10th in the long jump (6.45 meters). Deshaun Allen placed 10th in the shot put (13.12 meters).
In women's action the Lady Tigers returned to action at the Louisiana Classic.
Krissle Nicome finished in fifth place in the 1500 meter run (4:48.97), as well as seventh in the 800 meter run (2:18.94). Briana Brown finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (14.68) and Terisha Julius finished ninth (15.35). Akila Craig finished eighth in the 100 meter dash (12.13).
Brittany Jolly finished 10th in the 5000 meter run (20:20.00). The 4x100 meter relay team (Akila Craig, Shannon Parker, Cameia Alexander and Munirat Balogun) finished in fourth place (47.61).
In field action, Cliffaniqua Towbridge was a standout in the discus throw with a fourth place finish (43.02 meters). Sharonda Bryant came 10th place in the discus (39.33 meters). She also finished 13th in the shot put (13.39 meters). Terisha Julius finished eighth in the long jump (5.34 meters).
