HAMMOND, La. – The Jackson State softball team split a double header against the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions in a mid-week non-conference matchup at North Oak Park. JSU lost the first game of the twin bill 10-2 and bounced back to win the nightcap 2-1.
Lauren Ortiz (0-1) suffered the loss in the opener. In 4.1 innings she allowed 10 runs on seven hits.
The Lions put the first runs on the scoreboard, scoring two in the third inning. JSU scored its only two runs in the fourth when Amanda Vasquez and Sabeana Romero scored on a Chelsea Smith single to left field. The Lions put the game out of reach at the bottom of the fourth with a six run outburst. SELA added two insurance runs in the fifth.
JSU finished with five hits and two RBI. Romero led JSU with two hits and a run.
Breea Jamerson (6-11) got the win in the second game. She scattered three hits and a run over seven innings while striking out five batters.
The Lady Tigers put a run on the scoreboard in both the first and second innings. Tayler Nave scored on a Romero double to left field in the first inning and Tahlisa Blosser scored on a fielding error. The two runs were enough as SELA scored its only run in the fourth inning.
Wilson led JSU with two hits.
Jackson State (7-17) returns to action Thursday, Mar. 14 when the Lady Tigers host Cleveland State in a double header at the JSU Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
