Baseball to host Loyola in Tuesday action

JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State baseball team (5-6) returns to action Tuesday, Mar. 5 to host the Loyola Wolf Pack (New Orleans) in non-conference action at Braddy Field. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.

The Tigers are coming off a three-game sweep of the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. The Tigers are led at the plate by Ethan Bright, who sports a .357 batting average with 15 hits, five runs and two RBI. Gary Thomas follows with a .351 batting average - 13 hits, nine runs and two RBI. Desmond Russell, the SWAC preseason Pitcher of the Year, is batting .273 with 12 hits, a team high nine RBI and a home run.

Russell is JSU's ace on the mound. He has an outstanding 1.90 earned run average and a perfect 2-0 record. He has a complete game under his belt and has allowed only seven runs this season. His 29 strikeouts is a team high. Alexander Juday (0-1) has a 3.00 ERA. In 21 innings he has allowed 29 hits and seven runs while recording 11 strikeouts. Brandon Gregory (2-2) has a 6.05 ERA in 19.1 innings of work. He has 12 strikeouts this season and has allowed 20 hits.

Loyola (6-16), a NAIA school, comes into Tuesday's action on a five game losing streak. Evan Turkish and Karson Cullins are the two big bats for the Wolf Pack. Turkish has a .354 batting average with 23 hits, eight runs and 13 RBI. Cullins has a .346 batting average with 27 hits, 18 runs, two home runs and 17 RBI.

Daniel Posway (2-2) is the leader of the Loyola starting rotation. In 32.2 innings of work he has a 4.13 ERA, allowing 28 hits and 18 runs while recording 21 strikeouts. Kevin Lindsey (2-3) has a 4.33 ERA. He has allowed 29 hits and 16 runs while striking out nine batters.
