2013 SWAC Tournament Brackets Set for Tigers and Lady Tigers

JACKSON, Miss. - The brackets are now official for the 2013 Toyota SWAC Basketball tournament, which will take place March 12-16 at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. The Jackson State Tigers and Lady Tigers will look to win the conference tournament and put on their dancing shoes in late March during the NCAA Tournament.

The Lady Tigers (12-15, 9-9) ended the regular season by winning six of its final 10 games, including winning the last two games of the season. JSU will be the No. 5 seed and will take on No. 4 seed Prairie View A&M (14-4, 11-7) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 14. JSU and PVAM split the two meetings this season, with each team winning on its home court. In the first game (at Prairie View) on Jan. 14, JSU fell 59-53. Three Lady Tigers scored in double digits. Tiffany Kellum led the Lady Tigers with 15 points and nine rebounds. Ekwara Ndongo and Ayanna Hardy-Fuller each scored 10. Latia Williams led PVAM with 17 points. 

JSU won 62-56 when the two teams met in Jackson (Lee E. Williams AAC) on Feb. 11.Ayanna Hardy-Fuller scored a team high 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Bridgette James recorded a double-double as she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jeanette Jackson led PVAM with 18 points.

No. 10 - Alcorn State (2-25, 2-16): Jan. 6 - JSU won 59-56 (A. Hardy-Fuller 19 pts and 8 reb.),Feb. 2 - JSU won 40-34 (D. Howard 11 pts, T. Kellum 16 reb.)

No. 9 - Grambling State (8-22, 6-12): Jan. 19 - JSU won 61-54 (T. Kellum 16 pts, T. Kellum/D. Howard 9 reb. each), Feb. 16 - JSU won 71-67 (B. Banks 16 pts, A. Hardy-Fuller 8 reb.)

No. 8 - Alabama State (9-20, 7-11): Jan. 2 - JSU lost 76-62 (T. Kellum 17 pts and 11 reb.),Feb. 28 (B. Banks 19 pts, T. Kellum 9 reb.)

No. 7 - Ark. Pine Bluff (11-17, 7-11): Jan. 28 - JSU won 70-59 (T. Kellum 14 pts, B. James/D/Howard 5 reb. each), Feb. 25 - JSU lost 70-64 (D. Howard 14 pts, A. Hardy-Fuller 10 reb.)

No. 6 - Alabama A&M (9-19, 8-10): Jan. 4 - JSU lost 66-48 (B. Robinson 13 pts, T. Kellum 8 reb.), Mar. 2 - JSU won 52-45 (T. Kellum 14 pts, T. Kellum/A. Hardy-Fuller 7 reb. each)

No. 3 - Mississippi Valley State (15-14, 12-6): Jan. 26 - JSU won 73-68 in OT (T. Kellum 32 pts, D. Howard 15 reb.), Feb. 23 JSU lost 78-64 (D. Howard 14 pts, A. Hardy Fuller 10 reb.)

No. 2 - Southern (13-16, 12-6): Jan. 28 - JSU lost 72-59 (D. Brothern 12 pts, A. Hardy-Fuller 9 reb.), Feb. 4 - JSU lost 56-54 (E. Ndongo 18 pts, A.Hardy-Fuller/D. Howard 6 reb. each)

No. 1 - Texas Southern (19-10, 16-2): Jan. 12 - JSU lost 73-66 (E. Ndongo 21 pts and 8 reb),Feb. 9 - JSU lost 67-58 (T. Kellum 16 pts, D. Howard 12 reb.)

The JSU Tigers (10-17, 9-9) concluded their regular season by winning seven of the last 10 games. JSU will be the No. 2 seed and will face Alabama State (10-21, 8-10) on Thursday, Mar. 14 at 12:30 p.m. The Tigers and the Hornets split the series meetings this season. JSU fell 70-66 in the SWAC opener on Jan. 2 in Montgomery, Alabama. Dundrecous Nelson led all scorers with 27 points on 9-18 shooting from the field. He also dished out four assists. Denzell McDaniel led Alabama State with 16 points. The two teams met again on Feb. 28 at the Lee E. Williams AAC and the Tigers pulled out a 70-65 overtime victory. Christian Williams led the Tigers with 17 points on 7-14 shooting from the field. Jeff Stubbs added 15 points and Willie Readus scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

No. 4 - Prairie View A&M (13-18, 8-10)Jan. 14 - JSU lost 73-59 (D. Nelson 24 pts, S. Coleman 8 reb.), Feb. 11 - JSU won 65-60 (C. Williams 17 pts, K. Howard 7 reb.)
