JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State men's basketball team (8-17, 7-9) will host the Alabama State Hornets (9-20, 7-8) Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
The Tigers will look to bounce back from 73-72 road game loss to the Arkansas Pine Bluff Lions. Kelsey Howard scored a team high 23 points in the loss. Christian Williams followed with a 21 point, six rebound effort. Willie Readus added 14 points and seven rebounds.
ASU comes into to the game looking to get back on the winning track itself, after dropping its last two games. Thursday's game has significant meaning as the two team look to finish the regular season strong, before heading in the conference tournament. JSU (7-9 SWAC) and ASU (7-8 SWAC) will be jockeying for seeding in the tournament, which is slated to start on Mar. 12 in Garland, TX.
Alabama State won the first meeting of the season in Montgomery, AL (70-66). Dundrecous Nelson led JSU with 27 points. Denzell McDaniel scored a team high 16 points for Alabama State. JSU led 26-25 at halftime, but was outscored 45-40 in the second half.
The Tigers are led by Kelsey Howard who averages 14.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Christian Williams is the second leading scorer with 13.4 points per game. He is also shooting 36.5% from three point range.
ASU is led by Joshua Freelove who averages 13.8 points and Phillip Crawford who averages 12.1 points and six rebounds per game.
