Bowling finishes eighth at Holiday Collegiate

BESSEMER, Ala. - The Jackson State women's bowling team finished eighth in the 2013 Holiday Classic held at the Holiday Bowling Lane.

On the first day of the tournament JSU won three of its five matches. The Lady Tigers defeated Texas Southern, Alabama State and Valparaiso. JSU fell to Vanderbilt and Alabama A&M to finish in sixth place at the end of the day.

On the second day, JSU won two of its five matches. JSU opened the day with losses to Tulane and Sam Houston. JSU bounced back to beat Arkansas Pine Bluff and Arkansas State. Texas Southern beat JSU in the final match of the day to drop JSU to seventh place. Despite falling back in the rankings, the Lady Tigers were able to celebrate a big win over No. 1 ranked Arkansas State (909-885).

On the third and final day of the tournament JSU went 1-2, falling in the opening match to Tulane. JSU rebounded with a win over UAB, but fell to Valparaiso.

Dyanana Scott was the MVP for the Lady Tigers as she finished with a 194 average and bowled a high game of 224. Jekayla Bafford received an honorable mention. She averaged 184 and had a high game of 224.
