The Jackson State women's basketball team returns to action Feb. 23 when the Lady Tigers travel to Itta Bena, MS to take on the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes in Southwestern Athletic Conference action at the Harrison HPER Complex. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
The Devillettes will have a blackout and the Lady Tigers will be in their white uniforms.
Jackson State enters Saturday's game with a 10-13 record and a 7-7 SWAC record. In the first meeting of the season, the JSU Lady Tigers outlasted the Devilettes by winning 73-68 in overtime at JSU's Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. Senior Tiffany Kellum scored a career-high 32 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Freshman Demara Howard pulled down 15 rebounds. JSU comes into the contest on a two-game winning streak -having beaten Prairie View A&M (62-56) and Grambling State (71-67).
Kellum is the team's leading scorer and rebounder. She averages 12.9 ppg and 7.7 rpg. Ayanna Hardy-Fuller is the second leading scorer on the team, averaging 8.6 ppg. Howard averages 4.8 ppg and is second on the team in rebounding (6.8 rpg).
Kellum only needs 39 points to join the JSU women's basketball 1,000 point club.
Scouting Mississippi Valley State
The Devilettes come into Saturday's action having splits their last two games. MVSU beat Prairie View 58-53 and lost to Texas Southern 84-71. In their last game against JSU (in Jackson) MVSU fell 73-68 in OT. Joncyee Sanders led Valley with 17 points and Alia Frank pulled down a team high eight rebounds.
Frank is the team's leading scorer (11.1 ppg) and rebounder (6.5 rpg). Sanders follow, averaging 8.9 points per game.
