JSU drops home double header to Arkansas

JACKSON, MS - The Jackson State softball team lost its first home games of the season, falling 8-2 and 8-0 to the Arkansas Razorbacks Wednesday evening at the JSU Softball Complex. With the loss JSU falls to a 1-5 record and Arkansas remains undefeated with a 7-0 record.

In the opening game, JSU was able to keep the game within reach until the seventh inning when the Razorbacks put six runs on the scoreboard. The Lady Tigers opened the game by scoring in the first inning when Tayler Nave scored on a Canessa Swanson double.

Arkansas took the lead in the second inning when the Razorbacks scored two runs. JSU scored its final run in the fifth inning when pinch runner Raveen Palmer scored on a Jasmine Warren single.

Warren suffered the loss. She pitched seven innings and gave up eight runs on 12 hits and had three strikeouts. Hope McLemore picked up the win. In seven innings of work she gave up two runs on six hits while recording six strikeouts.

Arkansas gained control early in the second game. The Razorbacks scored at least one run in every inning except the first. Kelly Young picked up the win. She scatters two hits in five innings of work. She also recorded five strikeouts.

Breea Jamerson suffered the loss for Jackson State. She gave up eight runs on six hits. She also recorded three strikeouts.

JSU returns to action Friday, Feb. 15 for the opening round of the South Alabama Tournament in Mobile, AL. JSU will take on Lamar with first pitch set for 5:45 pm.
