JACKSON, MS - The Jackson State men's basketball team lost its second straight game by falling 61-54 to Texas Southern in Southwestern Athletic Conference action Saturday night at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
With the loss JSU falls to a 5-16 overall record and a 4-8 SWAC mark. Texas Southern improves to 10-14, 9-2 for the season.
JSU had only one double-digit scorer. Kelsey Howard scored a game-high 21 points on 8-16 shooting. Willie Readus added nine points and seven rebounds. Three Texas Southern players scored in double-figures. Omar Strong scored a team high 18 points. Aaron Clayborn followed with 12 points and seven rebounds and Fred Sturdivant recorded a double-double as he finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
JSU trailed 31-24 at halftime. The Tigers played Texas Southern even in the second half, with each team scoring 30 points.
JSU returns to action Monday, Feb. 11 to host Prairie View A&M at the Lee E. Williams AAC. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
