Jackson State Set to Open Season against SEMO

Jackson, MS-Jackson State Softball will begin their 2013 campaign as they face Southeast Missouri State tomorrow.    

Head Coach Ric Fremin is entering his third year at the helm of the Lady Tigers.  First pitch is set for 4 pm at the JSU Softball Complex.

Last season, the Lady Tigers posted a 32-27 overall record with a 12-4 SWAC record. Key returnees for Jackson include Sabeana Romero and Breea Jamerson who posted a batting average of .346 with 22 runs off 56 hits and drove in 10 homeruns.  Romero also recorded 35 RBIs.  In 2012, Jamerson captured a 2.31 ERA and a 13-8 win loss record.

Scouting the Redhawks
The Redhawks ended 2012 with a 23-20 record and a 13-16 Ohio Valley Conference record. Southeast Missouri were selected to finish fifth in the preseason coaches poll in the OVC. SEMO returns nine letterwinners from 2012, including Taylor Cowan who as a utility player recorded a batting average of .326 with 17 runs off 56 hits.

Lady Tigers Picked Second by SWAC Coaches/SIDS
After falling to Mississippi Valley in the 2012 SWAC Tournament, Jackson State was selected to finish second in the 2013 preseason SWAC standings.  The coaches and SIDS also voted on the 2013 preseason All-SWAC team.  Junior Breea Jamerson and Seniors Tayler Nave and Sabeana Romero were named to the first team All-SWAC selection while Lauren Aikens, Amanda Vasquez and Jasmine Warren received second team All-SWAC honors.
