JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State University Division of Athletics will hold its first annual "Breakfast of Champions" event to honor its scholars student-athletes, who earned at least a 3.0 grade point average through the summer of 2012. A total of 82 Tigers and Lady Tigers will be recognized during a breakfast ceremony on Feb. 14 at 8:30 a.m. in the JSU Student Center Ballroom.
The guest speaker of the event will be university's interim provost Dr. James Renick.
All JSU 18 sports are represented. The team breakdown is as follows: baseball (9), men's basketball (3), women's basketball (2), bowling (5), football (24), men's golf (2), women's golf (1), women's soccer (6), softball (6), men's tennis (2), women's tennis (3), men's track (10), women's track (4) and volleyball (5).
Of the 82 student-athletes five recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA, 24 finished between the 3.5-3.99 range and 53 recorded between a 3.0-3.49.
Each student-athlete will receive a commemorative Wheaties - Breakfast of Champions cereal box with the group picture of the 3.0 student-athletes added to the box.
