JSU Softball adds to coaching staff

JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State softball program recently added two new members to its coaching staff. Dale Reese and Darnell Walker bring over 30 years (collectively) coaching experience to the Lady Tigers softball.

Dale Reese, a Georgia native, will work mainly with the pitchers. He has seven years of pitching instruction experience and sixteen (16) years of coaching experience.

Reese started coaching in 1997 in the recreational league in Clinton, MS and started coaching travel ball in 1998 with the Mississippi Blast. As his interest for the sport of fast pitch softball grew, Reese helped establish the MS Elite Amateur Fast Pitch Softball Organization in 2004, which currently has eight teams for 2013. He has served as the head coach/manager on many Elite teams and a mentor to other coaches in the organization. Reese also has been the IFA/VTD State Commissioner for Mississippi since 2009.

Darnell Walker, a Michigan native, is no stranger to Jackson State University. Since 2005, Walker has worked as a Baseball Training Camp Instructor through the JSU Baseball program. He has also served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Tigers Baseball team for two years, and six years as Equipment manager for JSU Football and Women's Basketball teams.

Walker's prior coaching experience includes serving as Head Baseball Coach, Henry Ford Community College, Dearborn, MI; (2003-2004) where he coached several Region XII All-Conference players and several players matriculated to Division I - Baseball Programs.  Head Baseball Coach, Detroit Public Schools, Detroit, MI; (1994-2004) Where he won the Detroit Public School League 1995 Championship, had Two High School Gatorade All-American baseball recipients, several Academic All-City recipients, produced multiple Division I - Program players and trained & coached All-Americans - Shawn Crockett & Michael Green (1995).  Head Coach, Detroit Yankees Little League; where he was 7 time Detroit Hometown World Series Champions (1995-2000 & 2003). 

Walker's expertise has made him sought after as an Instructor/Trainer, as he is often asked to lend his expertise at baseball camps. From 2000-04 he served as volunteer baseball instructor for the Detroit Tigers Major League Baseball where he worked with manager Alan Trammell, of the Detroit Tigers, teaching baseball fundamentals to camp participants.
